John 14:6

I am the way, the truth, and the life

Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

These words are familiar to many, yet they are misused. Today, more and more people approach God without the crucified Jesus, without the cross. Approach God in the flesh, through outward forms, religious structures, and visible works. But Jesus’ words are not about a fleshly way. They are about a spiritual reality.

The new covenant is not a covenant of the flesh, but of the Spirit. That is why the way to the Father is also spiritual. The Bible says that we are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwells in us (Rom. 8:11). We do not come to Jesus by our own understanding, will, or reasoning, but by the Spirit. This means one thing: the flesh must be on the cross.

So what is this way? It is not a visible path, not a system, not a beautiful religious structure. It is the way by which a person gives up his own power and consents to have his own flesh crucified with Jesus Christ. On that way one does not live by performance, but by surrender. There spiritual sacrifices are offered, not works of the flesh (1 Pet. 2:5). This way is narrow and invisible, and therefore few find it. A carnal person cannot walk the spiritual way.

The Spirit of God is the Spirit of truth. The Spirit of truth does not confirm a person’s own rightness, but guides them to the Word of God. Truth does not come from opinions or experiences, but from the Word of God. When we listen to the Spirit of truth, God grows us, corrects us, and molds us through His Word.

Carnal truth looks completely different. It declares: I am right, others are wrong. It excludes, judges, and builds boundaries. Spiritual truth, on the other hand, reveals the heart and calls us to the foot of the cross.

What about life? We often talk about life in the flesh. We tell how many years we have been in the faith. But spiritual life is not about years or history. Jesus says in John 11:25: “I am the resurrection and the life.” When Jesus speaks of life, He means life in the Spirit. A life in which the flesh has died on the cross, but man lives by the power of God.

“Whoever believes in me will never die,” Jesus says. This does not mean physical immortality, but that the real death has already happened on the cross. The Spirit of God puts to death the flesh and gives birth to a life that is not of this world. This is spiritual life.

There is no third option in the new covenant. There are only two: the Spirit of truth or the spirit of unrighteousness. If we reject the Spirit of truth, the spirit of unrighteousness remains. There is no in-between. This choice is not made with words, but with the attitude of the heart.

Peace with God comes only through Jesus Christ. Grace is not born of effort, nor is it willingly crucified on the flesh. Everything happens through Jesus. He has all power, even over the flesh. Therefore, only through His cross does true freedom come.

The Bible says something that seems humanly strange: (Romans 5:3-5) tribulation produces patience, patience produces endurance, and endurance produces hope. This is not carnal logic. This is the reality of the Spirit. Living hope only arises when the flesh no longer desires itself, but the Spirit lives.

The Holy Spirit is not bound to structures. He moves like the wind (John 3:8). He cannot be imprisoned in a pulpit, a formula, or a mold. God’s love is poured into hearts through the Holy Spirit, not through systems.

We have access to the Most Holy Place through the blood of Jesus. Access to the Father is in the Spirit, only in the Spirit (Ephesians 2:18). When we reject the cross and the Spirit of truth, unrighteousness gains power. And where the spirit of unrighteousness reigns, division, darkness, and death are born.

That is why the Bible urges: test the spirits (1 John 4:1). Do not drive away the Spirit of truth.

The way to the cross is unknown to the flesh, but known to the Spirit. That is why few find it. But at the foot of the cross everything happens: the flesh dies, the Spirit gives life, and the truth sets free.

Everyone makes their own choice.

The question is still asked today: Do you believe it?
